My name is Elizabeth Petrucelli and I am a Certified
Labor Doula with DONA and CAPPA. I opened my business in December 2004 when my son was 15
months old. I felt alone and unsure of myself. Finding
clients was extremely difficult and finding someone to
help guide me was even harder. I needed a mentor
but there wasn't anyone out there willing to help me. I
was considered a "competitor" and no secrets were
shared.
I didn't know what a contract was supposed to look
like and I certainly didn't know what to go over in
prenatals. I was lost and overwhelmed. Thank
goodness I had the motivation to keep going. I got
much of this motivation from a doula colleague. She
was in my doula workshop and wanted me to join her
in starting a doula program at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Jocelyn helped me regain some motivation and
esteem, however, I still wanted to get my private
business going and successful.
After lots of time and too much money on advertising
mistakes, I was able to build my business. In my first
year I had about 8 clients. In the 2nd year over 15
clients. This year, I have already served 24 clients and
have more ready and waiting!! So many people want
to know how I was able to accomplish this and I am
willing to share my knowledge with you.
